Good food has always been an important part of my life from exploring Italian delis and French patisseries in London’s Soho as a child with my family, to cooking in my parents’ pub restaurant in my late teens; then working as a cookery book editor in my twenties followed by years of cooking for family and friends – and growing a large and much-used cookery book collection! Preparing a meal, even just for myself, is never a chore but always a delight. Cooking is my passion and so is travel – from exciting cities bursting with life to quiet retreats and places of beauty. But wherever I go, food is always a big part of my enjoyment, seeking out the best food from smart restaurants to beach cafes; exploring street markets and putting together a picnic from the best the local delis have to offer.
I began the blog in 2011 as The Single Gourmet and Traveller to show you that if you are ever eating in or out or travelling on your own, you need never compromise the gourmet or intrepid traveller in you. However, the blog has moved on since those early days to include a wealth of great ideas for everyone who loves good food and travel: places to eat, places to stay; creative ideas for cooking at home; the best places to buy food to bring home; and food talk and travel talk of every kind. I therefore changed the name to Travel Gourmet in 2016 – but there are still often special tips for the solo traveller and diner.
Travel Gourmet lives in South West London – and travels as often as she can! She also works as a freelance book editor. For details of my book publishing work see Kay Gale Editorial Services.
The views expressed in this blog are entirely her own and the results of her own explorations into the world of food and travel; she receives no sponsorship.
Travel Gourmet (as The Single Gourmet Traveller) was shortlisted for the DFDS Travel Blogger of the Year Awards 2015.

Hi Kay, we have recently opened a new restaurant in Richmond, Amadora. Would love it if you would come and check us out. 02089401806. Just ask for myself or my mobile, it would be great to have a chat. Your blog is really great.
Thanks

Glad you like the blog. Will pop in and say hello.
I saw your link on Bucket List Publications and have added a link to your site on mine, too. Hope you stop by for a visit: http://theopensuitcase.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/this-ones-for-the-wanderers/
Have had a look and like … will add you to my blogroll 🙂
Dear SG&T,
How do you find the time to do all your stuff, write your own blog and check out other peoples’? My blog is a foody and winey one too but perhaps a little different from most! I’d love it if you felt like taking a look at http://www.foodieafloat.com. Last year ‘The Times’ gave it a puff and I won the Sophie Coe Memorial prize for food history writing. I am now well into my first ‘sort of’ cook book which is why my blog has slowed down of late. When we are ‘chez nous’ in Twickenham we often go to Brula though I have never found anywhere else locally that I consider worth a second visit. We might be a little spoilt from spending so much time trailing round France but any recommendations will be followed up on our return.
Hi Di, the blog is my fun time so love spending time on it. Thanks for follow and your blog is great. There are plenty of other good places to eat in Twickenham like A Cena, Masaniello, pizza at Ruben’s Refettorio, Indian at Tangawizi. Type Twickenham into the search engine on blog and see what comes up plus My Local Area category.
Dear Kay,
Read your great review of A Cena’s NSSSC which sadly I had to cancel my spot for, though unlike you I wasn’t looking forward to the prawn cocktail. The rest of the feast looked amazing though. It seems we share a love of A Cena and other local foodie spots. I also live in Richmond upon Thames! Sadly I am currently a dreadfully deliquent blogger and am well overdue writing any of my numerous recent visits to A Cena plus Chez Lindsay, La Buvette and Petersham Nurseries. Next I hope to try Al Boccon di’vino and La Luna di Luca. I am definitely a new fan of your blog.

I’d like to invite you to participate in a new challenge that I am hosting at thewanderinggourmand.com to bring together the beer, wine, and food blogging worlds. As you may know, each month I host a Beer Versus Wine Pairing Challenge inviting readers to suggestion their perfect pairing with a monthly dish. I decided to make the challenge even more engaging by turning the challenge into a contest with bragging rights. Each month a dish will be presented. Bloggers have a week to post their perfect pairing and why in the comments section. The following week, I will summarize the comments in a post for a vote. The winner not only earns bragging rights but also the honor of coming up with the following month’s dish.
Right now the contest will be hosted at thewanderinggourmand.com. Future plans involve a breakout sight and a badge to post back on your blog. I welcome you to join the challenge as it begins today with Beer Battered Fish (http://thewanderinggourmand.com/2014/02/26/beer-battered-fish-pairing/).
Salud!
Many thanks for this invitation but I’m not really a beer drinker so not an ideal contributor. Good luck with it though and I look forward to reading the posts on your blog.

Hi, I can’t comment on your latest articles (from your trip to Spain), but as you are currently in Benissa, you have to go to the Verd i Vent restaurant nearby. It’s an amazing food experience, and right up your street, I think, from reading your blogs. You can find it on Trip Advisor here: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g672749-d2198881-Reviews-Verd_i_Vent-Benissa_Costa_Blanca_Alicante_Province_Valencian_Country.html
Thanks for the tip. My friends have heard good things but not tried it out. Maybe we’ll take a look.

Good morning,
By chance just came across an interesting couple of breadmaking websites. http://www.thepartisanbaker.com and http://www.bethesdabakers.com. Apparently they are holding an event called Bethesdabakin10@Twickenham on the August Bank Holiday. Looks interesting and a fun thing to participate in. I wondered if you knew about it.
No I didn’t and thanks so much for telling me about it! 😄
I liked your blog, I invite you to my blog:
