The Single Gourmet Traveller has teamed up with Lawrence Hartley, owner of Brula, to offer an exclusive menu to followers of The Single Gourmet and Traveller blog.

Since opening its doors in Crown Road, St Margarets, Twickenham in 2000, Brula (  has become a hugely popular destination for lovers of French food. Soon establishing itself as a favourite amongst locals in Twickenham and Richmond, news of its excellence and authenticity spread. It has received many accolades and awards: it was runner-up in the Best Restaurant category of the 2011 Observer Food Monthly Award (runner-up only to Heston Blumenthal!); it was voted the Best French Bistrot 2013 by Zagat; it has retained its Tripadvisor certificate of excellence two years in a row, 2012/2013; and was named one of the top 5 best French restaurants in the 2013 Hardens.

I’ve written about Brula twice before on the blog. The first time was when I interviewed Lawrence for his Top Ten Cookery Books (click here) and learned that his love of French cooking came from his Parisian mother and that he has regularly travelled to France throughout his life. He brings this love of the welcoming ambience of a Parisian bistro and great French food to Brula. Most recently – only a few days ago – I met Lawrence again to hear about the recent exciting changes at Brula and how it’s embracing a more continental style by offering an all-day menu: a brasserie by day where you can have anything from just a coffee to a light snack or full lunch, and becoming a restaurant at night, offering a wonderful a la carte menu and set menu (click here to read more).

It was over this lunch that Lawrence put to me the idea of us teaming up to offer an exclusive menu to followers of the blog. Lawrence has come up with a superb and exciting 3-course menu offering the best of French cooking with that modern touch that his new Executive Chef James Kirby and Head Chef Jamie Russell have recently brought to the ‘new Brula’.     We are off to Brula tonight for my husband’s birthday meal. Booked in for 7:45pm. I will be back there tomorrow morning for knitting group. 🙂
