The rules for One Lovely Blog Award are:

1. Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.

2. Acknowledge that blogger on your blog and link back.

3. Share 7 random things about yourself.

4. Nominate 7 or more blogs with the award, a link to their blogs and notify them on their blogs.

5. Copy and paste award on your blog somewhere.

Thank you to:Ā

Three other food bloggers have kindly nominated me for the One Lovely Blog Award in the past week: Fae’s Twist & Tango, Our Growing Paynes and Mama Miyuki Easy Pantsy. It’s always lovely to have recognition from other bloggers, especially ones like these who I follow avidly myself and enjoy. Fae is of Iranian descent and a storyteller too and her posts are always a joy to read, filled with wonderful twists, articles about world cultures and travel. Virginia at Our Growing Paynes writes entertainingly about gardening, cooking and knitting; she was originally from England before moving to US and she and her husband plan to move ‘back across the pond’ when they retire. Mama Miyuki is an Indonesian living in Japan and her blog is dedicated to recipes that make cooking Indonesian food at home simple, which for me is great because I always think this kind of cooking is difficult – but Mama Miyuki shows us it’s not!

7 Random Things About Me

1. I used to be told off as a child for reading too much … but I ended up making a career as a book editor.

2. My piece de resistance in the kitchen when I was a teenager was making brilliant chocolate eclairs; I made excellent choux pastry – but I haven’t made them since leaving school!

3. The first serious music album I bought was Neil Young’sĀ Harvest, back in 1972 when it first came out. I’m not a nostalgic person when it comes to music. I rarely play ‘old stuff’ but this has stood the test of time and is still played. When my kids went to university I had to buy them a copy each to play if they felt homesick so used were they to it as background music while I was cooking supper!

4. I was 8 when I tasted my first red pepper. My family was holidaying in Spain and I’d never seen a red pepper before (yes, I was 8Ā that long ago). Even today it’s one of my clearest and most exciting memories. I couldn’t believe a vegetable could taste so wonderful.

5. I can never cross Blackheath in south east London without remembering how, when I was 17/18 and first had my driving licence, I got lost on it in thick fog and couldn’t even seen the edge of the road. As the place where bodies were reputedly buried during the Black Death in the mid-14th century, it was not a good place to be lost alone at night in thick fog!

6. Don’t try to have a serious conversation with me until I’ve had my morning coffee.

7. I love chocolate (no surprise!) but only dark, dark, dark.

I’m passing the ‘One Lovely Blog Award’ to (in alphabetical order):

1. Canadian Hiking Photography

2. Canal Cook

3. Chef Mimi Blog

4. Green Door Hospitality

5. My Custard Pie

6. Petit4chocolatier

7. Soulofspice

You are wonderful! Congratulations on your lovely award! And thank you for nominating me among these creative and lovely people and their beautiful blogs!

It is funny, as a child and young adult I was told I bake way too much and wear my heart on my sleeve too much. Still do! It is funny how life parallels and you become the person you are meant to be. Beautiful randomness of you! Scary about the fog! A friend of mine bought a car when I was 17, she was 18, and didn’t know how to drive it home from the dealership (stick shift). It was blizzard conditions and the car was the colour white. We landed in a snow drift. After awhile my dad came looking for us on the rural roads we may have taken to this other town. Luckily he found us because we each had just gotten our license, no cell phones, and were pretty much stuck not knowing what to do. I don’t think there were any bodies buried near us.Yikes! But it felt like it šŸ™‚
    Thank you again my dear!

    • Thank you, Judy, and I really do get great pleasure from your blog and love the way writing the blog has connected me to some wonderful people who share my passion for food and travel that I might not otherwise have met. Your car experience sounds pretty scary too … but we’re still here to tell the tales thank goodness. Have a good weekend!

  2. You share your travels so beautifully. Congrats on the lovely award. Well deserved. It’s a treat to hear about your first time tasting red pepper & brought back my memory of first time eating freshly picked cherries on a Himalayan vacation.
Thanks so much for nominating me & introducing me to different flavours & other bloggers. Can’t wait to see you blog about another favorite of mine, chocolate eclairs šŸ˜‰ charu

  3. I have to say you don’t look old enough to have purchased an album in 1972.

  4. Congrats on your well-deserved award! And thank you so much for the recognition. Greatly appreciated! šŸ™‚ And, you are so right on ‘Harvest’. Fantastic album that will always be relevant and lovely!
    Kenley

  5. Hi Kay! Thank you so much for this award. I really appreciate it. I’m going to drag my fit a bit, because I’m waiting for a decision to be made that will change how I allocate my time. If this thing happens, I will most likely cut back on the cookery blog and not deal with awards, as they really do take so much time if one takes them seriously. However, if the decision goes the other way, I will honor this award and its rules, and nothing will change with my blog. thanks again. mimi

    • Hi Mimi, please don’t feel under any obligation to follow the ‘rules’ – I don’t think people always do and I just wanted use the award to pass your blog details to some of my own readers as I enjoy it so much. Good luck with your future plans. Kay

  6. Thank you so much for the kind words and congratulations

  7. Congratulations! Well deserved award for a fantastic blog. Thank you for the kind mention! šŸ˜€ Fae.

  8. Congratulations for 3 One Lovely Blog Award! You do have a Lovely blog and it is evident. Well deserved! Thank you for the kind mention. Fae.

  9. Congratulations! This blog is really lovely you defiantly deserve it!
